Welcome to Maxwell’s Playbook
I started Maxwell’s Playbook back in 2013, initially as web site to share information with women on careers, finances, fashion, home and other lifestyle topics. The only thing was, I didn’t have as much time as I needed to keep the writing and topics fresh and current! Even then though, I had a plan to expand the Maxwell’s Playbook concept to include events, philanthropic and possibly even an incubator for start-up companies for women entrepreneurs.

Fast forward to 2016 where the lack of time to maintain a web site left me at a stand-still. Without purposefully following my plan, I decided to start hosting brunches — after all, events have a scheduled date and once the invitations are out, you must meet the deadline!
The Maxwell’s Playbook Brunch Series was born, designed to help women achieve their personal goals wherever they are in life. Our primary connections are through brunches and other activities that we host throughout the year. Attendees are a diverse group of women who are entrepreneurs, teachers, moms, women who work 9-5 and more. Our speakers, authors and others who speak on topics such as personal branding, the power of women’s friendships, making the most of social media, money matters, health and wellness and more. These activities are designed to nourish personal networking particularly in a social media age.
We’ve covered topics like the power of women’s friendships, making the most of your network, building your personal brand and social media. One of my favorite events was on helping women get to the next level with of their epic goals and dreams. In true Ellen DeGeneres form, we asked our women to take the floor, and share with everyone else the “thing” they were working on and what they needed to get to the next level. What they didn’t know was that Maxwell’s Playbook had prepared something for them that day – a gift, a connection or an experience – that would help them get to that next level (cue the Kleenex!).
Once again, without going back to the plan, we found a way to incorporate another goal – philanthropy – into our events. A percentage of the proceeds from each event goes to support organizations that benefit women and families. For example, Maxwell’s Playbook has supported St. Ann’s Center for Women, Children & Families, the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter, hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico, No Kid Hungry, and A21 which works to prevent human trafficking.
Plus, we have super fun activities like private shopping parties, fitness meetups, vision board parties, cooking classes and a Christmas holiday trip to New York City.
Last fall Maxwell’s Playbook took a bit of a hiatus. I was swamped with major changes at work; I couldn’t even think of how to pull together these experiences. All of my brain cells simply had to rest.
I’m now entering a new phase of life where I will have the time to develop even more super exciting experiences with our wonderful tribe! Women in the Ashburn (or nearby) area of northern Virginia who would like to join us, let us know!
